Sherin Abdelnaby and Rachel Hughes, dynamic cousins and co-founders of a transformative movement, share an inspiring journey of turning a simple idea into a powerful force for change. United by a vision to create a space where women could come together, empower one another, and provide unwavering support, these two remarkable individuals have left an indelible mark on the landscape of female empowerment in Ireland. Through their work, they have demonstrated that even small ideas, when nurtured with passion and purpose, can spark nationwide transformation.
What began as a casual conversation between cousins has blossomed into a remarkable initiative known as the “Sister Sheds” – a network of empowering communities spread across Ireland. The Sister Sheds are not just physical spaces; they are vibrant hubs of connection, resilience, and empowerment, embodying the strength that arises when women come together.
Sherin and Rachel’s unwavering passion and dedication have fuelled the growth of this movement, providing women across Ireland with a platform to share experiences, overcome challenges, and collectively strive for a better future. Their commitment to fostering a sense of community has resulted in a profound impact, creating a ripple effect that extends far beyond the bounds of their original idea.
In recognition of their outstanding efforts, Sherin and Rachel Hughes achieved the prestigious status of a registered charity 18th December 2023, marking a significant milestone in their mission to uplift and transform the lives of women in Ireland. Their journey serves as a beacon of inspiration for those who believe in the power of unity and collective action.
Sherin Abdelnaby is a Life Coach and inspirational speaker who regularly delivers talks at conferences and community events focused on empowerment, resilience, and social change.
She previously spoke at the Women’s Conference held at The Rose Hotel in Kerry, sponsored by NEWKD and organised by the Women’s Kerry Centre. The conference brought women together to share uplifting and empowering stories centred on making Ireland a safer place for women. We are delighted to share that Sister Sheds will be hosting a major event in 2026 to highlight the vital importance of women’s safety.
Most recently, Sherin attended the Inspiring Women’s Conference in Kerry as a guest speaker, alongside an inspiring group of women and community leaders in celebration of International Women’s Day. With approximately 200 attendees, the event created a powerful space for connection, reflection, and empowerment.
During the conference, Sherin shared her personal journey, highlighting the importance of resilience, leadership, and creating opportunities for women to thrive. A particularly moving part of the event was her interview with Latifa Jawadi, an Afghan-born woman who fled Afghanistan as a child after the Taliban seized control.
Sherin also facilitated an interactive Vision Board workshop, encouraging participants to reflect on their aspirations and take intentional steps toward their personal and professional goals. The event was a great success, bringing together women from diverse backgrounds to share stories, support one another, and look ahead with purpose and ambition.
As speakers, Sherin and Rachel bring their infectious enthusiasm and wealth of experience to the stage, sharing the story of how a simple idea can evolve into a nationwide movement for positive change. Their message is clear: when women support each other, incredible things happen.
